CCST seeks candidates who are eager to learn and practice science communication as well as convey the relevance of their research to public policy questions. The training series and culminating Showcase offer graduate students and postdocs the opportunity to cultivate the skills necessary for science policy advising, meet other innovative researchers, and proudly represent their home institution.

All interested students should apply for the NOAA’s Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program.  This scholarship supports students pursuing graduate degrees in various marine/ocean disciplines such as oceanography, marine biology, marine science, maritime studies, ocean engineering, coastal social science, marine education, marine stewardship, cultural anthropology, resource management, and more. 

Benefits:

  • $42,000 annually per MS student (a 12-month stipend of $30,000 for up to two years in addition to an education allowance of up to $12,000),
  • Up to $10,000 of support for a 4-6 week program collaboration at a NOAA facility.

Applications for 2025 Marine Energy Fellowships are now open to graduate students and recent post-graduates!

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) and the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) have opened applications for the 2025 Marine Energy Fellowship. There are two tracks—one track for graduate students working on marine energy-focused research theses or dissertations and a new post-graduate track for recent graduates focused on advancing their careers in marine energy.  Activity: Current graduate students will conduct research at their academic institution and a host facility. Recent graduates—those who graduated within 24 months of the application deadline—will be awarded a minimum 12-month fellowship at a host facility.  Duration of fellowship: 6 to 12 months

Applications deadline for summer 2025: 1:59 pm (PDT) December 6, 2024

Applications deadline for fall 2025: 1:59 pm (PDT) March 7, 2025

Graduate students engaged in ocean and coastal research with a CSU faculty member are invited to apply to the AY 2024-25 Dr. Kenneth H. Coale Graduate Scholar Award Program. These $4,000 scholarships provide students with valuable resources to conduct research, defray living expenses, and pay tuition while pursuing their educational goals. We expect to make at least 25 awards this year.

  • Read the Announcement in its entirety before applying!
  • Applications are due by Wednesday, January 29, 2025,5:00 p.m. PST.
    • ALL materials MUST be submitted by this deadline. Incomplete applications and applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • We will hold virtual office hours for anyone with questions at the following times:
    • 12:00 - 1:00 pm on November 6, 2024
    • 10:00 - 11:00 am on December 10, 2024

Historically, these awards have been very competitive. Climate Currents aims to foster a vibrant community of scientists who are eager to contribute to the dialogue on geoscience & environmental issues. They are currently seeking contributors and editors to support the creation and publication of our content for the upcoming summer term and beyond.

The COAST 2024-25 Student Travel Awards Program is now accepting applications for both remote and in-person conferences!

COAST provides support for continuing CSU undergraduate and graduate students to attend and present the results of original ocean and coastal research at scientific conferences. We are now accepting applications for conferences occurring July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis until funding is expended.

The North Carolina Center for Coastal Algae, People, and Environment (NC C-CAPE) at NC State is seeking a full time program research administrator to facilitate day to day Center activities, program management and coordination across multiple research projects and a community engagement core. Climate Change and National Marine Sanctuary Facilities and Operations Internship, National Marine Sanctuary

The intern will build their understanding of assessing and addressing climate change drivers and impacts in the context of an expansive organization like the federal government, while assisting ONMS in inventorying, reducing, and communicating about greenhouse gas emissions and how climate change is impacting sanctuary operations and facilities.  July 1- November 1, 2024 (flexible). Identifying and Compiling Socioeconomic and Socio-ecological Climate Change Indicators for Sanctuary Communities Internship, National Marine Sanctuary

The California Dune Science Network is seeking a postgraduate or graduate student researcher to assist us in advancing our understanding of coastal dune processes and dynamics. UCSB Sea Turtle Field Course and Expedition

Created by a graduate from UC Santa Bárbara - Bren School of Environmental Science & Management (BIOMA) offers experiential learning and hands-on research experience. Our participants collaborate side by side with experts to learn about sea turtle biology, ecology and management while doing impactful on-site conservation work and living in a local community. Student will build skills of real-world application, boost their resume and knowledge while discovering incredible landscapes at Costa Rica’s Pacific sunshine coast.

The California Recreational Fisheries Survey Project is currently accepting Scientific Aid applications from highly-motivated and dedicated individuals who would like to work in the field, on and around boats, in a fast-paced setting.

Duties will include collecting recreational fishery data and biological samples at public launch ramps/docks/piers/etc., identifying finfish and invertebrates to species and collect biological data, and conduct onboard sampling of Commercial Passenger Fishing Vessels.

Introducing a new program called Climate-Ready Engineers for Water Resources Applications (CREW-RA) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in partnership with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).
