The film program is very maker-oriented. With the bigger programs, you’ll often spend the first two years in the classroom. At CSUMB, the first week they were putting cameras in our hands.

Beyond the Classroom. By Your Side.

When you choose Cal State Monterey Bay, you join a supportive and collaborative community. You’ll go beyond the lecture hall and labs to build skills, gain knowledge, and discover more about yourself—and you’ll receive guidance every step of the way.

“We get so much hands-on experience. It’s really helpful in the job market…. There are so many opportunities to research. We have a very unique area here.”

Learning in Monterey Bay

Our coastal location means more than beach days and the outdoors. It defines who we are and inspires learning and research. Our proximity to the Bay Area and the agriculturally rich Salinas Valley opens you up to many internship and job opportunities.

What I really feel that you can’t get elsewhere is the connection with the professors. I feel seen and acknowledged. I feel like they all have my back and want to see me do well. It’s a lot easier to learn this way.
