Preview & Purchase

To commemorate and chronicle this historic event, 15 CSUMB employees have come together to donate their time and talent to write, record and produce a song. Titled "Birdie In The Hole," it's upbeat, bluesy and the story of that last hole where all five golfers finished their final round against Lynn University (FL) in dramatic fashion.

Lyrics - Birdie In The Hole

DJ started
With a heck of lead
Down in Alabama
As the #3 seed
Gave the team their first point
Now he’s walkin’ back slow
He’s on the hill, waitin’ round
For a birdie in the hole

Scott two back
But he wasn’t givin’ up
He had a great quarterfinal
But today was looking tough.
He gave the point to Lynn
Then he headed for the slope
Scott and DJ waiting
For a birdie in the hole.

[chorus]
Birdie in the hole
Birdie in the hole
On the 18th green
With 30 feet to go
Dylan stepped up
Lookin’ tough, lookin’ bold
With the title on the line
He put a birdie in the hole.

Here comes Oskar
Lookin’ tall, lookin’ fly
Got stuck in sand
With the title slippin’ by
Lynn took the point
And were packin’ bags to go
But they all turned around
With a birdie in the hole.

Dylan was In a little of jam
Otters down 2-1
It was lookin’ kinda grim
Dylan hit the green
But he had too far to go
He had to putt to save the title
With a birdie in the hole.

[chorus]
[solo]

Coach Owen looked across
The river Tennessee
Thinkin’ I’m gonna take
That trophy back with me
His best player’s next
It’s Dylan’s older bro
If anyone can win it
Coach oughta know

Brother, brother John
Can you put this thing away?
You’ve been playin’ with ice
Running through your veins
Two-putt and out
Now you all know
They brought the trophy back home
‘Cause a birdie’s in the hole.

[chorus]

For Monterey Bay
He put a birdie in the hole.
They’re the National Champs
‘Cause a birdie’s in the hole.

Hotter Than An Otter

As a bonus track on the "Birdie In The Hole" CD, you'll find the 12th and last track on the disc is "Hotter Than An Otter," which pulls from a common phrase used across campus, from students to our President. It's the university's first "fight song" and celebrates the variety of sports and mascots in and around Otter Athletics.

Lyrics - Hotter Than An Otter

There's nothin' hotter
Than an Otter.
There's nothin' cooler
Than the Monterey Bay

Nothin' hotter than an Otter [yell: Otters!]
Nothin' cooler than the Bay [yell: Monterey Bay!]
Nothin' better than our volleyball or softball
Come on out and watch 'em play.

There's nothin' hotter
Than an Otter.
There's nothin' cooler
Than the Monterey Bay

You take drive down south
On Highway 101
Take a right, drive west
To the setting of the sun
They're a tough little bunch
And they're ready to play
The best game in town
This side of San Jose

There's nothin' hotter
Than an Otter.
There's nothin' cooler
Than the Monterey Bay

Nothin' hotter than an Otter [yell: Otters!]
Nothin' cooler than the Bay [yell: Monterey Bay!]
Nothin' better than our basketball teams
Come on out and watch 'em play.

There's nothin' hotter
Than an Otter.
There's nothin' cooler
Than the Monterey Bay

You got your Warriors, Coyotes
And your Lumberjacks
Broncos and Toros
And some Wildcats
Tritons, Seawolves,
Gators, Pioneers
And Golden Eagles?
We'll beat 'em all this year!

There's nothin' hotter
Than an Otter.
There's nothin' cooler
Than the Monterey Bay

Nothin' hotter than an Otter [yell: Otters!]
Nothin' cooler than the Bay [yell: Monterey Bay!]
Nothin' better than our baseball or softball
Come on out and watch 'em play.

There's nothin' hotter
Than an Otter.
There's nothin' cooler
Than the Monterey Bay

Nothin' better than makin' the post-season
Nothin' cooler than goin' undefeated
How 'bout winning a national championship!
That's the way we play by the Bay
The Monterey Bay
On the Monterey Bay

Previous Fundraising

In order to pay for that first batch of CDs, we needed help to raise the base costs for packaging and duplicating the commemorative CD. We offered to put their name in the liner notes with every pre-order! Here was our original pitch:

Here's Dylan Jackson's scorecard from that day, dramatically recreated as a commemorative bookmark by Kevin Garcia.
